Overview

Leaving Venice

We drive from the Fusina campsite to the Ferry Port in Venice. We arrive in plenty of time and are first in the queue!

Setting Sail

We find our berth and are quickly on deck to explore.

It doesn't take the girls long to find the pool and Bethany has quickly made some new friends, a greek girl who has a german father, but speaks excellent English, and a couple of dutch girls, who speak a little English, but can communicate with the Greek girl in German!

Camp on Board

The 'Camp on Board' facility is just amazing. This was an excellent find! We have electricity from the ships's supplies but are not allowed to cook or use the gas.

The majority of the day is spent relaxing by the pool (with a couple of beers). For the girls it's great. Just like their Zante breaks. Naturally, I'm bored!

Wednesday 11th August 2004

We arrive in Greece in early evening, and it's a three hour drive to Athens and then we have to find the campsite. The banners and flags for the Olympics are displayed everywhere.

Schinias is on the other side of the city, and we make a wrong turn and end up having to back track through Marathon.

Camping Ramnos - Closed

Eventually, we arrive at the campsitem, but the gates are closed. We pull into the car park opposite and bed down for the night to await entry in the morning.

Thursday 12th August 2004

We awake to find that the gates are open. We do the neceasary and are allocated our bay.

In the afternoon, we take the Motorhome out for a drive around to check out where some of the venues are. The bays are a bit tight and I manage to scrape the side on an overhanging tree!

We find the Hellinko site where the hockey is. There are no obvious parking areas, so it looks like we’ll have to use the Olympic transport system. We visit the Z20 (Schinias Park and Ride site) which is a little way down the road, but there is nobody there who can help us.
