Monday 16th August

We discover that the little shop, just outside the gates, has water in a freezer and that some of them are completely frozen. This is to prove to be a valuable discovery.

Exchanging stories with other campers we discover that we are not the only people who have had transport difficulties. The Dutch couple, who were here for the hockey, had also had difficulties with the Z’ buses. They had also had difficulties with the tram, which they warned us was very slow. The fencing French family were pleased as the French team had had success (Brice Guyart won gold in the Men Individual Foil), which had made their travel difficulties seem

Given the transport difficulties, we decided that we would hire a car. The following day was the cross-country section of the equestrian three-day event. Transport to the Equestrian centre at Markopolo left from the airport, where (we knew from our reconnaissance trip) there was plenty of parking. We could investigate car hire on our return to the airport.

The New Zealand couple, who we had abandoned at Marathon two days earlier, had walked back from Marathon (along the beach) yesterday, when they had not been able to get a taxi. As they were also going to the Cross Country on the following day we offered them a lift.
