Judo

The judo competition is fast and furious, with bouts changing over very quickly. Two competitions are in progress, the Men’s under 100kg and the Women’s under 78kg. Unfortunately, there is no British competitor in the Men’s event.

In the Men’s competition, the Israeli, Ariel Zeevi, receives an injury to his nose during his bout with South Korea's Jang Sung-Ho. They stop the bleeding and tape up the injury with a massive bandage, but he loses the bout.

Britain’s Rachel Wilding produced an excellent ura-nage (reverse throw) to beat Spain’s Esther San Miguel in her first match, but Wilding’s quarter-final appearance lasted just 25 seconds. She was turned onto her back by Ukrainian Anastasiia Matrosova before she had got properly set. Matrosova scored ippon (perfect throw) with osoto-gari (drop sweep).

As for the gymnastics, our seats are high up in the arena and we have a great, if distant, view of proceedings.
