My fathers christian name is Sydenham and it is derived from the prominant Sydenham family, who were landed gentry in Somerset and Devon. When I discover that my great-grandfather died in a house named 'Brimpton' in Dorking, I was led to the manor house of Brympton d'Evercy in Somerset, which had been owned by the Sydenham family for several generations. I struggled for ages to make the link between the Clarkes who were in my tree and the Sydenhams at Brympton.
The house came into the family when Sir John SYDENHAM married Joan STOURTON in 1434, and was passed to their eldest son, Walter SYDENHAM .What I eventually discovered, thanks to the sydenham family tree sent to me was there was not one but .... three connections to that family. These are documented in the tree below. All three lines, are ancestors of Roger SYDENHAM . The lines rejoin eleven and twelve generations later when two successive Roger's, from the direct paternal line, marry distant cousins, who are both descended from the first Sydenham Lord of the Manor of Brympton d'Evercy.
